dad
~Owsley S. Gregory (Dad)~
13th Armored "Black Cat" Division
Co. "C" 780th Amphibian Tank Battalion
My dad, Owsley Gregory was born in 1916 Wayne Co, KY to
Jefferson and Sophia Sharp Gregory. He grew up near Coopersville
and attended school at Bell Hill. He was the oldest son and after
his father died he quit school and began working in the coal mines.
In the late 1930's his mother moved the family to Indiana.
My dad and my mom (Evie Gregory) knew each other in Kentucky.
She later moved to Indiana and they married in 1943. During
World War II my dad was an amphibious tank commander. He served
from Dec. 5, 1942 to Jan. 11, 1946, mainly in the Philippines.
My dad never talked much about the War, but I think he would like this page.

clair
~Clair Gregory~
1921 - 1973
My dad's younger brother Clair Gregory was born in Wayne Co, KY
Uncle Clair served in the Army during World War II.
I'm afraid I don't have any information regarding his
service time or where he was stationed. He married
Lillian Nichols and they raised their family in Indiana.
Both are buried in Lafayette, IN

My mom had two brothers in the World War II.

Ebby
~Elbert Gregory~
Elbert "Ebby" Gregory (1912 - 1947) was the son of Emberson
and Sally Lewis Gregory
. Eb served as a machinist mate aboard
the U.S.S. J. Wm. Ditter with the United States Navy.
Much of his service time was near the Philippines.
His ship was hit by a kamikazi plane near the end of the war.
Luckily while his ship was in New York for repairs, the war ended.
Eb never married. He was killed in a car accident in Warsaw, IN
shortly after the war ended. He is buried in Rocky Branch, KY.

Ted
~Edmond "Ted" Gregory~
1922 - 1978
Youngest brother Ted served in both World War II and the
Korean War. He was stationed in North Carolina with the
363rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Sl. Bn. (SEM, Battery "B").
I don't know if or where he was stationed overseas. Ted never
married. He lived in Indiana and is buried in Pierceton, IN.

V
"V" is for Victory!
~Evie Gregory (Mom)~
San Francisco, CA 1943

I think it's important that we also remember those who waited
at home for their loved ones to return. Some were mothers working
to support their families alone, having to ration the use of food
staples and gasoline. They bought War Bonds, wrote letters and
sent care packages to their soldiers so far away.
