Today I started a 'blog' on the Gregory Family website. I've never had a blog, never written on anyone else's blog. But my intent is to have a place where we can chat about our Gregory ancestors. We'll give it a shot and see what happens.

2007 was a busy year for me in regards to genealogy.
My friend/cousin Eileen Mullins and I published our 2nd cemetery book. This one lists the names and info of those buried in Monticello's Alexander Cemetery. This is a cemetery located on the south end of Monticello, KY across from the old Cumberland Dairy. I had driven by the cemetery many, many times but never had stopped. It turns out that this is not just a cemetery for the Alexander family, but there are about 700 people buried in this cemetery. With the help of obituarys and other public records we were able to add notes about almost everyone in the cemetery. By clicking on the 'Book' link located on my home page, you can visit our cemetery book website.

In addition to publishing book #2, I was able to visit Wayne County several times this year. In December we were invited to participate in a holiday book signing event held at the Wayne County Public Library. This was so exciting for me and I visited with several people I had never met before.
In May I took my little 5 year old grandson with me to Wayne County. This was his very first trip to KY and he loved it. He met so many relatives who wanted to 'steal his sugar' and was he able to explore and do things this little city boy had never been able to do before. It was a great trip for him and for me!

This year I attended one of the genealogy lock-ins held at the Wayne County Public Library. These are always fun and you never know who you are going to run into. I met up with a couple of ladies whose mother turned out to be my mother's 1st cousin. I had a great visit with them that night and again one afternoon while we were in town.
As always, I visited many cemeteries while in Wayne County. I always stop by the Grant Roberts Cemetery and the Carl Kidd Cemetery where my grandparents are buried. This year I also stopped at the Bethesda Cemetery to find the grave of my great-grandaunt Julia Ann Gregory Gibson. I recently found her death certificate and it states that she is buried in the Bethesda Cemetery. We did locate the grave of her son, but we did not find Julia's grave. It may be one of the several unmarked graves near her son Elmer Diance Gibson.
All of these trips along with various trips to the public library in Fort Wayne, Indiana are helping me to prepare by 'Gregory book' which I hope to publish in the next year.

Just a note to say "I'm still here." So many things to do and sooo little time. - Marilyn

It's been awhile since I've had time to really work on my Gregory family web site. Today I have added some pictures contributed to the site over the past year. The first group of pictures begins here. These are from the John Franklin Gregory family of Wayne County. I also have some new pics from the Gregory family that moved out to Arkansas including Haden Gregory and his wife Mary "Polly" Martin.
Results are back from the Gregory DNA test showing that our Wayne County Gregorys are related to a family of Gregorys who settled in ILL c. 1800. These Gregorys also migrated from VA, but at this time a common ancestor is unknown.

Happy 4th of July! Over two hundred years and we can still celebrate our independance!

I'm very pleased to announce that Eileen Mullins and I have published our first book this past May. Called "Elk Spring Cemetery, A Garden of Memories", our book is written about Wayne Co, KY's largest cemetery. It lists the nearly 7,000 burials along with dates, inscriptions, and many notes written by Eileen and myself.

In case you have visited my site this past month you know that I had to remove many of my files from the web. I'm happy to announce that many of those are back online. It's a shame that I was forced to do this.

Hello!

It's been awhile since the last update. I've really been busy keeping up with the Wayne Co KYGenWeb site. My friend (and distant cousin) Eileen Mullins and I have been busy transcribing and uploading The Wayne County, Kentucky Cemeteries book by Ben and Juanita Coffey to the web. This was a huge project that has taken over a year to complete. If you haven't visited this project yet, we hope you will soon: Wayne County, Kentucky Cemeteries.

My latest project for this Gregory family web site is a list of Gregory men who fought for Kentucky in the Civil War. These were men who fought for the North and for the South. The list includes their regiment and the side they fought for. I will be adding information for many of the Gregory men who resided in Wayne County, KY. I would like to learn more about the other Gregory men listed. Please write to me if you have info to share regarding any of the men listed. Gregorys in the Civil War

Hello Cousins!

In January I became the county coordinator for the Wayne Co, KYGenWeb site.
It keeps me pretty busy. Currently I'm in the process of putting the Coffey's
Wayne County, Kentucky Cemeteries book online. Once this project
is complete, I'll probably remove several of the cemeteries from this
Gregory website.
We plan to visit Wayne Co the 2nd week-end in June. Maybe we'll see you there!

(Jan. 2003) - I'm so honored to have been chosen to take over the Wayne Co
KYGenWeb site. I'm so excited I can hardly wait to get started. Please
vist us at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html

Recently (Oct 2002) I joined a group of fellow Bertram/Butram researchers
in Sparta, TN to visit the grave of Revolutionary War soldier
William Butram. Wm. Butram once lived in Wayne Co, KY and [although
not proven] it is believed that he is my g-g-g-grandfather.
It was an enjoyable week-end meeting folks who I had only spoken
with via the internet. We took lots of pictures and I hope to have
those uploaded soon.
That same week-end we were finally allowed to visit the Slagle
Cemetery located in Wayne Co, KY. We had tried unsuccessfully
to access Slagle Hollow a few years ago. It was very exciting to
finally get there, even though I had given up any hope of finding
any info regarding my great-grandmother Nancy Slagle Gregory there.
It doesn't appear that anyone has been buried there since the 1930's
but is still well cared for. I've photographed some of the headstones
and they will be added to my site as well.

(Sept) I've spent the last two week-ends viewing the 1930 census for Wayne Co.
and Mcreary Co. I've transcribed entries for many of my family members,
but not sure that I should post this info unless I can verify that these
folks are no longer with us.

It's been a very busy and stressful year for me thus far.
Lots of things going on in my personal life causing ye ol' website
to been neglected.
The most exciting and wonderful thing was the birth of my first
grandchild last June. Ethan Gregory Perry b. June 24, 2002.
I'm sorry to say that he was born two weeks after my mom
Evie Gregory passed away.

(Sept) I'm doing away with my old email address: dffisher@msn.com
If you have my msn addy on file, please delete it.

Last fall (2001) I spent some time at the Frankfort, KY Archive Library
transcribing 20 years of death certificates. The librarian said
that he thought I had broken the record for the largest number of
microfilms viewed in a day! I hope to get those posted here.

(I'm trying to move my Cemetery Readings to another web site. The size
of that site seems to be bogging down my web page. Something to do
with bandwidth....... I've ordered a new home computer, maybe that
will help me work on my site a little faster. (I hope a LOT faster!)

Last fall (2001) a distant cousin sent me a picture of my grt-grt-grandfather
Sidney Goddard Gregory. What a surprise! It was one of those moments
when I did the "genealogist dance." Not only did he send me the picture
of my grandfather Sid, but also a picture of Sid's wife and several of
his children. What a treasure! I'm putting together a group of pages
with these pictures so Click Here.

Last fall (2001) I adopted two Wayne Co, KY websites. I hope you will pay
them a visit. The Kentucky Migrations Project and the NEW Wayne Co, KY
American History and Genealgoy Project, both are affiliated with USGenNet.

I'm still adding cemetery lists to my cemetery site and working on
putting parts of the 1860 Wayne Co. census online. There's also
a new internet newsletter called Gregory Gatherings.

Thanks for visiting my site,
~Marilyn~
